The U.S. Embassy in Israel has issued a fresh security alert as fighting between Yemen's Iran-backed Houthis and Saudi-backed forces intensifies, warning Americans of flight cancellations, airspace closures and travel disruptions, citing Houthi attacks on civilian airports and cautioning that the conflict could escalate rapidly, with identical alerts issued September 19 through U.S. missions in Iraq, Bahrain, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Qatar, Lebanon, Kuwait and Jordan, and a warning that Iran and groups supportive of Tehran could target U.S. interests or locations associated with Americans. Italy's embassy in Riyadh has told its citizens to avoid military installations and energy infrastructure across Saudi Arabia, its first such warning since March. Meanwhile a Washington Post report citing six U.S. officials familiar with internal casualty accounting says at least 22, and by one account 23, American service members have died since the war began on February 28, four more than the 18 listed in the Pentagon's public database, along with three contractors, as more than 820 troops have been wounded in action, many with traumatic brain injuries; Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth called the report "disgusting," "fake" and worse than Iranian state media.
