With the standard descent route out of condition, we were left with a single, committing option: to descend the same way we came up. This is the story of our climb of the seldom-attempted East Ridge up Jack Mountain (9069'), in Washington's North Cascades. This is a route that demands sustained focus, technical skill, and a deep trust in your partner. There's only one way down.
The intensity of Jack Mountain was rewarded with the stunning, panoramic views from the summit of nearby Crater Mountain (8,133'), which we climbed as a full team on our final day.
We'll bring you along on our 3-day journey into Washington's Pasayten Wilderness, sharing the challenges, alpine beauty, and human reflections as they happen.
