St Therese's Mysterious Encounter With Mary

When St. Thérèse of Lisieux was just ten years old, she became seriously ill. Her family prayed desperately for her recovery—and then something extraordinary happened. Thérèse looked toward a statue of the Virgin Mary beside her bed and later described an unforgettable moment: Our Lady smiled at her. But the story did not end with her recovery. What happened afterward caused Thérèse years of doubt and suffering—and makes the story of Our Lady of the Smile even more remarkable. This is the story behind one of the most mysterious experiences in the childhood of St. Thérèse of Lisieux.
