[오늘의 작가] 장유정《남김없이 : 온전한 일체 (一體) The Complete Wholeness》

디지털 이미지와 인공지능이 실재의 자리를 대신하는 시대, 장유정은 이미지와 실물, 재현과 실재 사이의 관계를 탐구한다. 사진 속 풍경을 손으로 빚어 입체로 만들고, 이를 다시 촬영해 평면으로 되돌리는 작가의 작업은 평면과 입체, 물질과 이미지 사이를 순환한다. 작가가 내면화한 서양 풍경화의 미학적 규범인 ‘픽처레스크(Picturesque)’는 실재를 바라보는 시선의 조건인 동시에 작업의 한계로 드러난다. 이번 전시는 그 규범을 재확인하는 동시에 원본과 이미지의 위계를 흔들며, 물질과 이미지가 하나로 통합될 수 있는지를 질문한다. 작품이 보여주는 것은 완결된 ‘온전한 일체’라기보다 그것을 향한 미완의 긴장이다. 장유정의 작업은 우리가 보고 믿는 세계가 과연 실재하는 것인지, 그리고 이미지와 실물 사이에 끝내 사라지지 않는 간극은 무엇인지 되묻는다. In an age when digital images and artificial intelligence increasingly stand in for reality, Jang Yujeong explores the relationship between images and physical objects, representation and the real. Her practice follows a circular process: she transforms photographed landscapes into three-dimensional forms by hand, then photographs these sculptures to return them to a two-dimensional plane. Through this process, her work moves between flatness and volume, materiality and image. The picturesque, an aesthetic ideal of Western landscape painting that the artist has internalized, emerges both as a condition shaping her perception of reality and as a limitation within her practice. This exhibition revisits that aesthetic framework while unsettling the hierarchy between original and image, asking whether material and image can ever become one. What the works reveal is not a fully achieved state of wholeness, but an unresolved tension in the pursuit of it.
