Todd Rundgren: Good Show, 'Spooky' Venue, Slightly Blurry Capture | Wilbur Theatre- BOS, MA (2024)

Warning: I am by no means a professional! He does an oldies mashup (featuring "I Saw the Light", "Can We Still Be Friends", and "Hello It's Me") right around the 48:22 mark for all us older fans, lol. Capturing Todd Rundgren at the historic Wilbur Theatre in 2024 was totally spur of the moment (as usual!), and you know how it goes with me and phone issues... My regular phone's battery was running low, and my newer phone was acting up and refusing to record properly. So, my point is, I was stuck constantly switching back and forth between the two just to piece this all together for you lovelies! On top of the frantic phone switching, sitting way up in the balcony rows of this century-old venue felt incredibly tight. While my friend was completely in love with the history and character of the building, it made me realize I’m definitely more of a modern gal who prefers spacious, updated venues! The steep layout and narrow exit stairs had my personal safety anxiety kicking into high gear. It was a bit of a surprise when he didn’t really sing the "oldies" until that 5-minute mashup near the end, but honestly, it was incredible to see and hear him perform. I’ve even discovered some new songs from him that I’d never heard before, and I now love listening to them! FUN FACT: Opened in 1914, the Wilbur Theatre is over a century old and full of character! It was the first theater in Boston completely inspired by American Colonial architecture instead of European styles, with the architects using historic homes in Boston and Virginia as blueprints for the internal brickwork and wood carvings. Because of its incredible acoustics and intimate 1,200-seat layout, it has hosted stage legends for decades (including Marlon Brando before he became a movie star) and was officially added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1980 to permanently preserve its historic interior and iconic marquee. TODD RUNDGREN TRIVIA: Though he performs with a full 5-piece band on stage tonight, Todd Rundgren is world-famous as a pioneering "one-man band."
