http://admissionsnarrative.com/?utm_s... A 4.0, AP classes, leadership, volunteering, and five extracurriculars can still produce an applicant who looks surprisingly similar to thousands of other strong students. That’s the part many families miss. The goal isn’t simply to make the résumé more impressive. It’s to make the student more understandable and more distinctive. Here’s the framework: 1. Diagnose the whole profile. Look at academics, activities, projects, leadership and trajectory together. 2. Separate strength from differentiation. Ask which accomplishments are common among strong applicants—and which actually reveal something unusual about this student. 3. Build 2–3 narrative pillars. Connect the student’s strongest interests, choices, impact and direction. The question to remember: “If an admissions reader saw this profile today, what would they say this student is becoming known for?” If the answer isn’t clear yet, adding extracurricular #9 probably isn’t the solution. The goal is not a longer résumé. It’s more depth, ownership, evidence and coherence. That’s also why I created the Differentiation Blueprint: 25 Ways to Stand Out, to help families think about differentiation without turning their teenager into a résumé machine.
