Lego steam locomotive - Shay

The Shay! Possibly the oddest curiosity of steam locomotives - cylinders mounted vertically on the right side, the boiler off-set to the left to counterbalance it, all driven by a driveshaft; this is the essence. I've tried 4 times to build this over the years, always failed for some reason, but finally by some muse of mechanical engineering, it just works! It does all that one should expect of a shay: it chugs along slowly but steadily, has working brakes, and good suspension, lights, and generally works really the same way as its real brethren. It pulls its own 4kg weight like nothing, and 3,5kg extra weight too (the waycar and the flatcar)! This particular locomotive is not really an accurate copy of any single real shay, but rather a generic thing, with bits and details from a variety of real locomotives. All in all this would count as one of the smaller ones, with just two bogies and two cylinders. Still, I think it's a decent embodiment of the spirit of early 20th century North American narrow gauge. This is also the first time I've built a proper carriage to go with the locomotive, the waycar, but having decided that it's all just too much for one single video, I'll shortly be posting two more videos, one with more details about the bogies and brakes, and another dedicated to the waycar.
