Did you recognize all the instruments in this song? I learned Mikhalku / מיכאַלקו cumulative Yiddish children’s song from the book of Jewish folk songs and Yiddish in English, compiled and edited, with English adaptations by Ruth Rubin (1989 edition), as well as recordings within the Ruth Rubin archive. You can find other versions of this song in earlier Yiddish songbooks like Undzer gezang / אונזער געזאַנג / Our Singing (Warsaw, 1930) Yidishe folks-lider / ייִדישע פאָלקס-לידער / Yiddish Folksongs (Kyiv, 1938) published in a Soviet Yiddish orthography and Mayselekh far kinder / מעשהלעך פאַר קינדער / Stories for Children / Cuentos para niños (Mexico, 1947) assembled for the children of Ashkenazi immigrants attending el Colegio Israelita de México in Mexico City Might be fun to line up and compare all the different vocalizations used for each instrument, as there is some variation among their Yiddish onomatopoeia.
