Durga Devi Durita Nivarini - Lavanya Sundararaman

Today, I would like to take you all to a very important Sthalam that is the abode of Maa Durga. And for this, we will be travelling outside of South India for the first time in this series. There are many important Durga temples in India like Vaishno Devi in Jammu & Kashmir, Kamakhya Temple in Guwahati, Naina Devi Temple in Nainital, Kanaka Durga Temple in Vijayawada, Durga Temple in Varanasi, Shri Durga Parameshwari Temple in Kateel and so on. But if there is one city that is synonymous with Durga Mata, it is Kolkata. It is not only because it is the abode of the world famous temples of Dakshineswar Kali and Kalighat Kali, but also because of the extremely ostentatious and spellbinding Durga Puja Pandals that the city is known for during the Navarathri festival. I have tried to capture some images of the most beautiful Pandals in this video. Don’t miss them. They are surely a visual treat. The krithi that I am sharing today is a fast-paced attractive composition in Navarasa Kanada by Sri Harikesanallur Muthaiah Bhagavathar. The Chittaswaram in the Anupallavi and Charanam are the highlight in this composition. Special thanks to the accompanying artistes for embellishing this rendition with their wonderful music. Violin: Parur M. K. Ananthalakshmi Mridangam: Srivathsa Pasumarthi Morsing: Kumbakonam Balaji Sairam See you tomorrow with yet another important Sthalam and composition in this series.
