Football in the Faroe Islands - The Movie

Hello everyone and welcome to the culmination of hours and hours of work in an attempt for me to capture where I believe may be the most amazing country in the world for so many reasons. Back in late 2020 I started the twitter account Nordic Footy (@footy_nordic) at the time as a method of sharing some bits of research that I had been doing into Faroese football, how amazing it was the unlikelihood of it thriving and yet it’s weird and unlikely success. In 2023 when KI Klaksvik reached the group stage of European football for the first time in the countries history, with the build up and coverage that I had given them, I knew that I had to go. I went out to the Faroe Islands on my own, for the first time in my life I travelled abroad completely alone on the pursuit for an experience that I not only wanted to share with the world but also as a way to enrich my life. I have always had the dream to work in sport, and despite not getting paid in anyway to do this (In fact it cost a lot) I still feel like I left the country as more of a person than I had arrived. My goal was not to make a feature film, it was not to make something that people would marvel at as a cinematic masterpiece, instead it was a way for me to express myself as a person. Living and watching sport, and for the first time in my life, without distractions, without background noise that’s what I was doing. Living, breathing and experiencing a sporting culture that is unlike any I have seen. I don’t expect many to watch the whole thing, in fact I don’t expect many to watch at all. But for me this is an expression of self. Who I am and who I want to be. An explorer and a learner. By no means are my journalistic skills akin to that of the any number of the real journalist, but I tell you what, I didn’t see any other English media there that day to witness a literally once in a life time occasion, an occasion where the culmination of decades of work and dedication came to the forefront and a Faroese team would win in Europe for the first time. And not just that, I have made contact and friends that I will tressure for life. If you are still reading this go and send me a message on twitter with the tag #NFFaroeTour, just because it’ll make me feel cool. And if you do you might just be the first to see some exclusive stuff we are doing very very very soon. Thank you for reading and please have a great day!
