Fiddle lesson — "Glory in the Meeting House"

"Glory in the Meeting House" beginner/intermediate version. Traditional Appalachian fiddle tune based mostly on the playing of Kentucky fiddler Luther Strong. Many contemporary fiddlers play this in the key of E minor, but Strong and other older fiddlers give it a major inflection in places, blending the Mixolydian and Dorian modes. Traditionally the fiddle is tuned EDAE for this piece, with the bass string tuned down from G. For convenience sake I was tuned in standard during the lesson this clip is taken from. Since the bass string is not integral to the melody the fingering and bowing remain essentially the same apart from some instances when you would drone the low E. A more advanced version of the tune would apply Luther Strong’s use of the doubled E on the second string and open first string in the opening phrases and his sharper bowing in the first couple measures. 00:00 fast 00:55 slow
