A playthrough of the April 5, 2011 build for Alice: Madness Returns. This predates the final build (April 27, 2011) by about 3 weeks but this is not the same version as the one on Steam. The current Steam version is apparently a rollback to an earlier build that doesn't have DRM but it is not the same as this even earlier build that I'm showcasing in this video. I played this on a Xenia canary build from January 21, 2025 (with a controller this time!). The game's resolution is set at 720p which is why even though I recorded in 1080p in fullscreen, it looks blurry/smudgy. I'm also not sure if the tiling/squares seen in the 2D cutscenes is a compression issue with the video files themselves or if it's an emulator problem (worst offender being the Pris cutscene at 10:47). Also I know the volume in the recording is super low but when I'm actively playing, it almost blows out my eardrums with how loud it is so I've decided to leave the volume level as is without touching it. Below is a list of differences between the final build and this one in this chapter. There's possibly more but these were the most obvious ones to me. Differences: The glass during the Cable Car cutscene doesn't break (35:42) The 2D clockhands texture is missing from all of the floating Hatter buildings (36:48) Bolterflies are present in the Hatter's Gate level while in the final game they are not (40:32 & 42:34). The original Alpha slide model (the uneven, bumpy stone/rock one) is still present underneath the metal plates slide (50:54). It looks as though the metal plates don't have collision as Alice is still sliding on the Alpha one. Instead of a JumpPad here, there is a fully moving elevator platform (1:39:23) The Infernal Train is frozen on the tracks after its cutscene rather than disappearing and also seems to be clipping through a large metal beam that I don't think is there in the final game (1:41:48)
