I Finished the Haute Route – It Wasn’t What I Expected

This is the Haute Route - 100 miles of trail linking Mont Blanc to the Matterhorn. On the way you’ll cross high mountain passes and remote valleys, linked by a network of mountain huts. Most people take 2 weeks to cross it. I had given myself just 7 days. I flew into Geneva and had one week to cross the Alps and make it to Zurich, where I would fly home. To stand a chance, I would have to run wherever I could, make the most of the lifts, and sleep in the mountain huts along the way. Now I’m five days into the Haute Route, and I’ve just spent the night at this spectacular alpine refuge. It’s time for one final push to Zermatt. But I was about to find out that the trail still had some surprises left for me to discover.
