Water changes are one of the most talked-about parts of reef keeping — but do we REALLY need to do them every week? It’s Water Change Sunday at Papi’s Reef, and today I’m taking you along while I perform water changes and maintenance on both of my reef systems — the 144-gallon CADE and the 60-gallon ProStar. As the tanks continue to mature, keeping nutrients under control and maintaining stable water parameters is a big part of the process. But how important is being consistent with water changes? Do they really need to happen every week, or can you get away with waiting longer? In this video: • Water change on the 144G CADE reef tank • Water change on the 60G ProStar reef tank • My weekly reef tank maintenance routine • Keeping nutrients under control • Maintaining stable water parameters • Updates on both reef systems • The reality of staying consistent with reef tank maintenance Every reef tank is different, and there are plenty of ways to maintain a successful system. This is what I’m currently doing with mine and what I’m learning along the way. How often do YOU do water changes on your reef tank — every week, every two weeks, once a month, or only when your parameters tell you it’s time? Let me know in the comments. A LIVING REEF, LIFE.
