Russian Village Lost in the Wild North | Rural Russia

Famous Kizhi just in 40 miles from this very remote north village. But here you'll never see even local tourists. About 50-100 locals are still surriving here without public routes, normal shops, water supply, gas, medical help, and Internet. In winter months road to village can be unaccessible for many days because of snow. At summer time, nearest but stop in 15 miles, where small bus can take you to nearest very small town in 60 miles. In Soviet times, speedboat "Kometa" had a daily route here from Petrozavodsk, capital of Karelia, and it was just a 2.5-hour scenic jorney for $7 price. Now, you must drive 110 miles to reach it. But we made even more this time: on small city car Ford Fiesta we came here from Moscow oblast, and it was almost 900 miles trip. Why? Because this Russian village is quiet, relaxing, mysterious place, once visited here, you'll be desire to return in this village again and again... Deep in Russia's wild north, we drive to the remote village of Kuzaranda in Karelia, on the shore of Lake Onega. There are no paved roads here, no gas station and no public transport — and we're making the trip in a small Ford Fiesta. Made in 4K UHD. Kuzaranda means “Spruce Shore.” Historically, it was a group of 24 small villages scattered along this part of the Lake Onega coast. Today, it is a quiet place surrounded by forests and water, far from the usual tourist routes. We explore the village, drive its rough roads, spend time on the lake, go fishing, and see a little of everyday life in the Russian North. Real Village, not embellished real life as it is. We weren't tourists here, we were visiting relatives. We also met a local man who was born and raised here. He tells us about Kuzaranda and reads some of his own poetry about the village — in Russian, just as it sounds here. This is not a tourist attraction or a recreated traditional village. It is a real place where people still live, on the edge of one of Europe's largest lakes.
