Working with J in this video, a level 2 student learning the fundamentals of transition and feeding. Here, we talk about 2 common concepts discussed with students new to feeding:
1. Why is feeding hard, and the link between the defense priority aspects of Balintawak, which being reactionary, rely on the subconscious, and the action of thinking for feeding, which does not rely on reaction. The switching here, which is transition, is a difficult boundary to gain proficiency at.
2. Accountability of Motion: Being aware of, and in control of, every motion that your body does, under pressure, while also reacting to stimulus and creating stimulus. It is here that Sir Bob teaches that we restrict the students options, because this allows the student to become aware of the entirety of their motions, and control those motions, under pressure.
While the concepts here relate to the defense-priority of Balintawak, the ideas are important for all martial arts and martial artists.
We will occasionally release short clips that discuss ideas like this. Please subscribe, share, and comment if you like the content or have any specific concepts you are interested in hearing about.
