Málaga wasn’t meant to be a proper city stop on this trip. It was supposed to be a transition.
After rail works and a replacement bus delayed my journey from Sevilla, I arrived in the late afternoon and had only one evening before leaving again the next morning. So instead of trying to “cover” Málaga, I wanted to find out something simpler: can you get a feeling for a city in half a day?
I walked from the old town to the cathedral, found the Alcazaba, got my first view of the Mediterranean, followed the waterfront to Muelle Uno and La Malagueta, and ended the evening with a wonderfully simple meal: anchovies in vinegar, Russian salad with tuna belly, patatas bravas and vermouth.
And honestly? Málaga made it easy. It felt open, relaxed, coastal and instantly welcoming — like the city was saying: nice to meet you, let’s not make this complicated.
This was only a first glimpse. But it was more than enough to make me want to come back.
