With Mother (Ernest Bloch) / Dreaming of Home and Mother (John Pond Ordway)

Tomorrow (Sunday) I will play two very special and beautiful Mothers' Day songs but today I also wanted to play these two peaceful songs in honor of the spirit of the weekend. They are simple, but I hope you enjoy them. Bloch's composition "With Mother" (1923), is the third piece in his collection "Enfantines", which consists of ten songs for children. Ordway's composition "Dreaming of Home and Mother" (1868), was a very popular sentimental song of the Civil War era. I have included the original lyrics at the end of this post. Normally I like to take more time to write about the composers and songs I play, but I am very busy today because I am preparing to play in a recital tomorrow (on Mothers' Day). I hope that some of you are able to take the time to learn about Ernest Bloch (1880-1959), a Swiss-born American composer, and John Pond Ordway, an American businessman, composer, physician, and politician (1824-1880), who died the year that Bloch was born.
