There is a legend that Robin Hood lies buried in the ruins of the convent at Kirklees, West Yorkshire, where he was betrayed to his death. The story goes that as he laid dying he took his famous bow and arrow and fired one last shot into the woods, asking Little John to bury him wheresoever it may land. This is a song for the woman he left behind, whom history has remembered only as Maid Marian. In my version of the tale, she is a high-born lady with everything her heart could desire. And yet she would have given everything she owned for a simple life with the man she loved. This is a song for Marian as she navigates her grief - not only for Robin, but for the shared future that died with him.
