As I mentioned in the video, here’s the bracket reveal for the Greatest Vocalist Tournament:    • Who Is the Greatest Vocalist of All Time? ...   My first time hearing Floor Jansen and Henk Poort perform “The Phantom of the Opera” together, and this was absolutely fantastic. I recently heard the Nightwish version with Tarja Turunen and Marko Hietala, so I was really excited to see what Floor would do with the same material. And she knocked it out of the park. What really stood out to me was Floor’s breath control and restraint. There were moments where she could have gone enormous immediately, but instead she eased into notes so gently and allowed the performance to build. Knowing what Floor is capable of vocally made that control even more impressive. Then there’s Henk Poort. Even if you didn’t know he actually played the Phantom in the Dutch production of The Phantom of the Opera, after hearing this performance you’d probably think, “Yeah. That guy was made for this role.” I also loved how completely Floor committed to the theatrical side of the performance. At a Nightwish concert, she has this commanding presence where it feels like nobody on Earth is telling Floor Jansen what to do. 😂 Here, though, she fell completely into the role and the dynamic between Christine and the Phantom. Then Henk starts demanding more. “Sing.” And Floor just keeps going higher and higher. I genuinely don’t have a favorite between the versions I’ve heard. Tarja’s performance was understandably more overtly operatic given her background, while Floor brought a different combination of control, power, restraint, and theatricality. Two very different interpretations. Both incredible.
