This Cox Tee Dee .049 vintage model engine was still running well, but a slight metallic knock and excessive play in the piston / connecting rod ball joint called for a closer inspection. In this video I run the classic Cox Tee Dee .049, disassemble the engine, clean and inspect the internal parts, and use a Cox .049 piston reset tool to correct the excessive ball-joint play. After the teardown, cleaning, piston reset and reassembly, the 0.8 cc Tee Dee .049 goes back onto my Graupner Topsy RC airplane for another hand start and test run, followed by a short flight. The Cox Tee Dee .049 is one of the classic high-performance 1/2A glow engines and remains a fascinating example of a tiny vintage model aircraft engine that is still great fun to run, maintain and fly today.
