Beautiful😍 Moment Wenchihene and New Juabenhene Unity at Akuapem @Odwira 200years Festival, 2026🎊🇬🇭 Akuapem Odwira @200 Grand Durbar, 2026 Celebration 🎊 👑 🇬🇭 🇬🇭 🇬🇭 😍 Grand Arrival of Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin II at the Akuapem Odwira @200 Celebration 🎊👑🇬🇭 Brief History of the Odwira Festival 🇬🇭 The Odwira Festival is a major traditional celebration of the Akuapem people of Ghana’s Eastern Region, particularly associated with Akropong, Aburi, Larteh and other Akuapem communities. It combines spiritual purification, thanksgiving, harvest, ancestral remembrance and cultural unity. The Akuapem Odwira tradition is traditionally traced to 1826, during the reign of the 19th Okuapehene, Nana Addo Dankwa I. Its establishment is closely associated with the Battle of Katamanso near Dodowa, where Akuapem and allied forces defeated the Asante army. The first Akuapem Odwira celebration is traditionally dated to October 1826. The festival became a time for the people to cleanse and renew the state, honour their ancestors, give thanks for the harvest and strengthen unity. The celebration traditionally includes the presentation of new yams, purification rituals, processions, drumming, dancing and gatherings of chiefs and communities. Interesting fact: 2026 marks 200 years of the Akuapem Odwira tradition, making this year’s celebration a significant bicentenary. I hope you enjoy the video.
