Alright, so this drawing was based off of a real-life scenario: Apparently, Nathan Chen is going to attend Goucher College to study oncology once he graduates from Yale, meaning that there's a good chance he's going to retire from figure skating for the sake of his medical career. So I drew this to portray what would happen if Nathan broke the news to Darby in my MLP universe. Darby: So, does this mean you're... breaking up with me? Nathan Chen: Darby, it's not what you think... Darby: tears begin to well up her eyes I'm sorry, Nathan, but if you joining the medical program means abandoning me with Pee-wee, Wally, and the Squeakoids, then I have no choice but to call it off. (Darby starts crying with Pee-wee and Wally comforting her. Vanilla looks very confused about this situation. Eventually Applejack arrives.) Applejack: What is goin' on? Nathan Chen: It's over, AJ. Applejack: What do ya mean? Nathan Chen: I have to attend this medical program outside of Ponyville. Applejack: notices Darby crying So that explains why Darby's crying?! All for some darn medical program?! For crying out loud, Nathan, why can't you just stay with her?! Nathan Chen: I'm sorry, Applejack, but this is very important for my career. Besides, she has Wally and Pee-wee. Applejack: But even then, they won't replace you! You're one of the few ponies Darby's in love with, and there's no way she's gonna lose you! Nathan Chen: ... Applejack: What? Nathan Chen: I'm leaving. Applejack: Well good for you! Darby doesn't deserve somepony who's bad news like you! (After Nathan leaves the scene, Applejack walks over to check on Darby) Applejack: Are you okay, sugarcube? Darby: sniffs I'm not okay, Applejack. I feel like I lost somepony special. Applejack: I know it looks bad, but everything'll be just fine in the end. We're all here for you if ya need us.
