Mercy Wanjiru Kimani was 23 when a night out along Mombasa Road ended with her being found critically injured three kilometres from the club. CCTV captured her final known movements — but what happened during the missing hours remains unanswered.
On January 18, 2026, Mercy Wanjiru Kimani attended a birthday celebration at Tunnel Lounge along Mombasa Road after receiving an invitation from a friend. CCTV reportedly captured Mercy enjoying the night before her friends left, leaving her behind; shortly afterward, she was seen attempting to negotiate a ride home with a boda boda rider before walking away alone.
The following day, Mercy was found unconscious approximately three kilometres from the lounge near the Ramtons area. She had suffered devastating injuries, including severe head trauma, serious abdominal injuries and fractures to her limbs. She was taken for medical treatment and eventually transferred to the ICU at Thika Level 4 Hospital, where she remained critically ill for months before her death on April 23, 2026.
For Mercy's family, the central question remains: what happened after she walked away from the lounge? This Crime Dopers investigation examines Mercy Wanjiru Kimani's final known movements, the CCTV timeline, the unexplained gap, the circumstances surrounding her discovery and the wider Kenyan conversation around violence against women in 2026.
