I set out in my cedar-strip canoe for an overnight journey along the River Bure, paddling upstream to Buxton Mill before turning downstream through Horstead and Coltishall in search of somewhere to camp. Between Buxton Mill and Horstead Lock, the river becomes wonderfully quiet and enclosed. With overhanging trees, clear passages cut through the weed and barely another boat in sight, it felt like a completely different side of the Norfolk Broads. Despite the river being busy elsewhere, I eventually found what felt like the perfect hidden spot beneath the trees—just enough room for the canoe, a hammock and a peaceful evening beside the water. After a good meal, an evening coffee and a very comfortable night, there was time for a substantial breakfast before a tranquil paddle back. A simple canoe journey, an unexpectedly beautiful stretch of river and one terrific campsite. Thanks for coming along. See you on whatever the next adventure is. Filmed on the River Bure, Norfolk.
