The Message & The Angels | Lecture Three | Ziyarat al-Jami'a al-Kabirah

Ziyarat al-Jamiʿa al-Kabirah describes the Ahlulbayt (as) as “Mawḍiʿ al-Risālah” — the locus of the Divine Message — and “Mukhtalaf al-Malāʾikah” — those whom the angels continually frequent. What do these descriptions reveal about the place of the Ahlulbayt (as) within creation, and why does the Ziyarah describe them as the locus of the message rather than simply those who convey it? In this lecture, we reflect upon the deeper meanings of “Mawḍiʿ al-Risālah” and “Mukhtalaf al-Malāʾikah”, exploring the different layers through which the words of the Ahlulbayt (as) are understood, the distinction between the legislative and creational dimensions of the Divine Message, and the primordial realities of Muhammad, Ali and Fatimah (as). The discussion also examines the relationship between the Ahlulbayt (as) and the angelic realm, how the angels receive their knowledge and glorification of Allah through them, and the continued descent of the angels upon the Imam of our time.
