In this video, I take on one of my most challenging repairs yet: bringing a broken Zorki 4K back to life. I found this camera at a flea market for just $6. The shutter was clearly damaged because one of the curtain bands had snapped, so it was impossible to take photos with it. Still, I have always loved the design of these vintage Leica-style rangefinder cameras, and I decided to take the risk and try to repair it myself. What followed were two full days of trial and error, frustration, and a lot of learning. I completely disassembled the camera and carefully documented every step to make reassembly possible. The biggest challenge was repairing the shutter curtains. My first attempts failed because I used superglue, which turned out to be a terrible idea. After rebuilding the mechanism countless times, I had to start over with new materials. In the end, I improvised replacement parts using drawstrings, and somehow it worked. But that was just the beginning. From adjusting spring tension to reinstalling the slow-speed escapement, aligning the rangefinder, and rebuilding the film advance mechanism, almost every step came with its own setbacks. At one point, I seriously considered giving up. After multiple full disassemblies and reassemblies, I finally got everything working, almost. Even the lens had to be taken apart, cleaned, and lubricated before the camera was fully usable again. Now it is time for the real question. Will it actually work? #35mm #filmphotography #35mmfilm
