Dyslexia in the public school system with Dr. Lauren. (Dyslexia 2020)

About Dr. Lauren McClenney-Rosenstein: I graduated from Syracuse University with a bachelor’s in psychology, then pursued a dual masters in elementary education and special education. Shortly after graduating, I started my career as a special educator in a specialized private school serving students with dyslexia and other language base disabilities at Swift School in Roswell, GA from 2011-2013. I taught 4th grade for three years and used the Orton-Gillingham method along with other multi-sensory techniques to teach reading and writing. There, I was trained under an Orton-Gillingham Fellow and became certified at the Associate Level in the Orton-Gillingham Academy. After, I worked at The Lab School of Washington teaching reading and writing using the Orton-Gillingham method and Story Grammar Marker to 3rd/4th for a year. After leaving the private school world, I became a public-school special educator at the middle school level in the suburbs of Maryland. I co-taught 7th grade ELA and math for one year before looping up with my case load and taught 8th grade ELA and math for three years. I managed several IEPs and caseloads ranging from 12-16 students. Currently, I work for Maryland Coalition for Inclusive Education (MCIE) as a Professional Learning Facilitator. The mission of MCIE is to support and educate school districts to include the special education population into their neighborhood schools and get them in classrooms with age appropriate peers. I am also a contract tutor with LINKZ where I still apply my Orton-Gillingham certification to help students with dyslexia. In 2019, I earned my doctorate degree from Northeastern in teaching, learning, leadership, and curriculum. I am a mother of two, with a dog, cat, and two birds. My husband is also an educator at the middle school level.
