Renowned for her luminous sound, refined artistry, and musical intelligence, Catherine Michel brings a lifetime of experience as one of France’s most distinguished interpreters of the instrument In this first rehearsal session in Paris, Madame Michel experiments and demonstrates with her colleagues a newly rediscovered Harp Concerto No. 6 in C Major by Joseph Anton Steffan (1726–1797) — a Bohemian-Austrian composer who was the piano teacher of Queen Marie Antoinette of France. Steffan wrote a total of 6 harp concertos for the young queen who was known for her harp playing. They are a showcase of the refined artistry of the 18th Century French court. For over two centuries, Steffan’s harp music remained hidden from public ears. Michel’s mastery in the French harp tradition makes her the perfect artist to bring this forgotten treasure to life.
