The late Omukama (King) of Tooro was Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV (also known as King Oyo or Rukidi IV). The selected successor is George Desmond Kamurasi. Present/late king • Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV (born 16 April 1992) reigned from 1995 until his death on 26/27 August 2026 at age 34. • He ascended the throne on 12 September 1995 at age three after the death of his father, Omukama Patrick David Matthew Kaboyo Olimi III, becoming one of the world’s youngest reigning monarchs at the time. • He died in the United States (reports mention Texas) while receiving treatment for aggressive brain cancer. His body was returned to Uganda, and burial is scheduled for 12 September 2026. • The throne is currently vacant. Traditional mourning rites (including turning the royal drum upside down) are ongoing, and the Omusuuga (head of the Babiito royal clan), Charles Akiiki Kamurasi, is acting as custodian. New/selected king • George Desmond Kamurasi (age 36, born around August 1990) was selected on 4 September 2026 by the 21-member Royal Succession Committee of the Babiito clan (15 of 18 attending members supported him). • He is a first cousin of the late King Oyo (son of George Desmond “Jimmy” Mugenyi, a younger brother of the previous king Olimi III). He has lived much of his adult life in the UK, where he has worked and played as a non-league goalkeeper/captain for a London club (SE Dons). He is married with a son. • Formal public announcement by the Omusuuga is expected only after King Oyo’s burial, in line with Tooro custom. Some earlier statements from kingdom officials mentioned the late king leaving a prince as heir (identity not publicly disclosed), and there has been some public discussion around the process, but multiple reports (including those citing journalist Andrew Mwenda and noting support from President Museveni and Gen. Muhoozi) identify Kamurasi as the committee’s choice. Tooro is a traditional cultural kingdom in western Uganda (centered around Fort Portal). The Omukama’s role is cultural rather than political. The situation remains fluid until the formal announcement after the burial. #lumbuyefredlive #kingoyo #uganda #museveni #exclusiveupdates256
