Abram, Isaka & Akobi, not, Abram, Isaka & Esawu
Written & Produced by: Dr. Beverley Rose-Anderson
Art Cover Concept: Dr. Beverley Rose-Anderson
Inspired by the account of Abram, Isaka, Rebecca, Akobi and Esawu
A slow, reverent Private School Amapiano production carrying a powerful narrative about lineage, possession, inheritance and divine choice.
Through deep baritone storytelling, warm Rhodes chords, fretless bass, crisp shakers and a heavy, rolling log-drum groove, this song tells the story of Rebecca's pregnancy, the struggle between the twins, and the declaration concerning Akobi and his seed.
At the heart of the song is the repeated proclamation:
“Abram, Isaka, and Akobi — not, Abram, Isaka, and Esawu.”
The song presents Akobi as the one identified with the royal pedigree and the promised lineage, while contrasting his path with that of Esawu.
IsiXhosa expressions used in the song
Yiza! — Come!
Thula! — Be quiet! / Be still!
Kuyo! — There! / It is there!
Halalela! — Praise! / Give praise!
These expressions are woven into the response chants to give the song an African linguistic and rhythmic character.
Lyrics
[Verse 1]
Isaka and Rebecca went to Moria's ground,
To seek the face where SoNINI NaNINI is found.
She was barren, her womb was silent and still,
Isaka stood up, praying for Somandla's will!
"Verify Your word, You who promised the sand,
To multiply our seed and give us this land!"
[Verse 2]
Oh, SoNINI NaNINI heard the cry of Abram’s praying son,
Seven months of waiting passed, the miracle had begun.
But deep inside her womb, the tiny nations started to fight,
Rebecca cried in heavy pain throughout the lonely night.
She asked the elders, Shem and Eber, what this burden could mean,
They brought the word from SoNINI NaNINI, a vision yet unseen.
[Chorus]
Oh, Shem, Eber, and Abram knew the sacred decree!
(Yiza! — Come! Abram knew the sacred decree!)
Somandla chose Akobi for the royal pedigree!
(Akobi for the pedigree! Thula! — Be still!)
Not the line of Esawu, but the promise of the free,
Abram, Isaka, and Akobi—for all eternity!
Yes, the special possession upon the chosen ground,
In Abram, Isaka, and Akobi, the true lineage is found!
(Kuyo! — There! Not in Abram, Isaka, and Esawu!)
[Verse 3]
The weeks went by, the time was full, the twins were brought to birth,
Akobi, smooth and upright man, walking in quiet worth.
But fierce Esawu loved the field, a hunter trained for war,
While Akobi dwelt in peaceful tents and learned the ancient lore.
Isaka loved the wild hunter, but Abram saw the sign,
He knew Akobi held the seed to pass the holy line.
[Verse 4]
Abram called Rebecca, gave a solemn command!
"Watch over my son Akobi, he shall stand on the land!
For an abundant increase in the children of men,
For the glory of the seed, over and over again!
SoNINI NaNINI will choose him for possession today,
Above all other peoples, he will lead the way!"
[Verse 5]
"My daughter, let your hands be strong, let your heart rejoice today,
I have loved Akobi far beyond, his seed is here to stay.
Num'bring his children is like counting sands upon the shore,
The abundant increase of Somandla is his forevermore.
His seed shall lay foundations where the heavy heavens stand,
Renewing all the firmament and strengthening the land!"
[Verse 6]
Old Abram called young Akobi close, before his mother's eyes,
He kissed the boy and called down favor from the upper skies.
"May Somandla grant the confidence that keeps your spirit whole,
The favor given to Adam, Noah, and Shem into your soul.
No spirit of Mastêmâ shall rule or turn you from the light,
Go forth in peace, the first-born son of majesty and might!"
[Outro]
Rebecca loved him with her soul, Akobi took the lead!
(Halalela to the seed! — Praise to the seed!) Kuyo!
Abram, Isaka, and Akobi!
(Halalela! — Praise! Yiza! — Come!)
Jerusalema... Go in peace.
