All Ireland Champions 2001

On 30 September, 2001 the Laois Ladies Senior Football team entered the annals of Laois history when they won the All-Ireland Final for the first time. Never before had a Laois football team, men or women, lifted an All-Ireland senior title. In this video, we tell the story of the Laois Ladies Football team success of 2001 and we give an account of the matches played that year that ultimately led to winning the All-Ireland final. Starved of All-Ireland success several times over the previous two decades, the 2001 win was celebrated far and wide and we re-live the memory of some of those joyous celebrations. We dedicate this video to the memory of those involved in the 2001 team who have since passed away and we pay tribute to them in this video. [With special thanks to 2001 players Mary Kirwan, Martha Kirwan and Theresa Swayne for their help in providing information and sharing memories for the production of this video].
