First Time in Chicago 🇺🇸 | SFO Art Tour, O'Hare Tunnel of Lights, Portillo's & Our First Chicago Dog

The journey begins at the Philippine Airlines Mabuhay Lounge in Terminal 1, with a pre-flight meal before boarding the flight from Manila (MNL) to San Francisco (SFO). With an overnight layover and plenty of time to spare, I explored San Francisco International Airport and discovered why it's considered one of the most unique airports in the world. From beautiful Haitian metalworks and historic Chinese ceramics to the Aviation Library (unfortunately closed during my visit), every corner of SFO felt like a museum. I also checked out the "Gateway" mural made of hand-painted tiles and an exhibit celebrating the San Francisco Ballet's 90th anniversary. Fun Fact: SFO is one of the few airports in the world with a fully accredited museum program, featuring rotating exhibits throughout its terminals! The next morning, my travel buddy arrived and we continued our journey to Chicago aboard United Airlines. Upon landing at O'Hare International Airport (ORD), we experienced the famous Tunnel of Lights before taking the CTA train into downtown Chicago. We checked into the cozy and centrally located Freehand Chicago Hotel in River North, a vibrant neighborhood known for its restaurants, nightlife, and easy access to many of Chicago's top attractions. To kick off our Chicago adventure, we made a beeline for Portillo's! Founded in 1963 as a small hot dog stand called "The Dog House," Portillo's has become one of Chicago's most beloved institutions. We tried a classic Chicago-style hot dog, enjoyed a creamy milkshake, and couldn't leave without tasting their legendary chocolate cake—famously known for being incredibly moist and rich.
