On the morning of 21 November 1916, HMHS Britannic sank in the Kea Channel after striking a mine while serving as a hospital ship during the First World War. This animation reconstructs Britannic’s final moments. The sequence aims to portray the ship’s sinking as accurately as possible, using historical accounts, survivor testimony, wreck observations, and modern research to recreate the final stages of one of the largest ocean liners ever lost. At over 48,000 tons and measuring 269 metres in length, Britannic disappeared beneath the surface in less than an hour.
