Thank you Joey for sharing this emerging information with us!
About the webinar: Sooty bark disease is a tree health concern emerging in the Pacific Northwest. The disease is caused by the fungus Cryptostroma corticale, which has been found a handful of broadleaf species in the region, including big leaf maple. More research is urgently needed to understand the extent and severity of the tree disease. Community scientists can help accelerate research by sharing observations and submitting samples through the Forest Health Watch (https://foresthealth.org/) program.
Meet the speaker: Dr. Joey Hulbert is a Tacoma resident and researcher at the WSU Research and Extension Center in Puyallup WA. Joey leads the Forest Health Watch program at WSU with support from the USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture and the McIntire Stennis programs. He has a background in studying plant diseases and is available as a resource to any community concerned about tree health throughout the region. Joey is eager to engage with more communities and welcomes others to contact him at hulbe@wsu.edu
