Day 34 of the Sara Duterte impeachment trial took the financial investigation even deeper. The AMLC Director returned to the witness stand as the Senate examined the transactions involving Cale88 Foods Corporation, a company linked to Manases “Mans” Carpio, as well as other companies associated with Sara Duterte and her husband. 🔥 Among the biggest developments: • The AMLC confirmed ₱319.3 million in remittances involving China and Hong Kong to Cale88. • Questions were raised about the Chinese companies behind those transactions, including claims that some were state-owned enterprises. • The AMLC discussed ₱776 million in total cash inflows involving Cale88, and whether the company could potentially warrant further money-laundering investigation if the transactions cannot be adequately explained. • The defense continued challenging the disclosure and interpretation of AMLC information, particularly its confidentiality. • Senator-judges questioned the reliability of the financial records, including the controversial correction that reduced one reported transaction involving Mans Carpio from ₱2 billion to ₱2 million. • Questions were also raised about how the reported bank transactions compare with the couple’s SALNs over the years. • The impeachment court also moved toward hearing directly from representatives of the subpoenaed banks and insurance companies.
