Amongst the grand visit of Union Pacific 4-8-8-4 "Big Boy" #4014 to the Keystone state, Steamtown National Historic Site of Scranton, Pennsylvania would become a temporary point for public display and routine maintenance before the arrival in Philadelphia. In addition to the world's largest operational steam locomotive, Baldwin Locomotive Works 0-6-0 #26 would be the power for limited excursions through "The Electric City". The stocky switcher would sport the melody of a replica Hancock 3 Chime, the same type of whistle worn by the Big Boys. Climb aboard as we follow Baldwin's yard goat in "The Big Boy Limited" By Keystone Rail Productions!
History of Baldwin Locomotive Works 26:
Built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in March of 1929, 26 is an 0-6-0 switcher designed to operate for the namesake company's Eddystone, Pennsylvania plant. For nearly two decades, the locomotive would be painted in Baldwin's standard olive green with aluminum trim where it would labor raw materials and completed locomotives around the grounds of the plant. In 1948, the locomotive would be sold to the Jackson Iron & Steel Company where it would remain stored until 1979, when Jerry Jacobson saved it from the scrapper's torch. Acquired by Steamtown in 1986, the locomotive would eventually be restored to operating condition by 1990. Last operating in 1999, the locomotive would once again sit idle until returning to steam in 2015, currently making it the only operating steam locomotive in Steamtown's fleet.
