In December 1957, at the very peak of his fame, Elvis Presley opened an envelope that would take him away from Hollywood, the charts, and everything he'd built — a U.S. Army draft notice. Colonel Parker and the biggest studios in America scrambled to keep him singing in a uniform instead of serving in one, but Elvis said no to all of it.
This is the diary entry where Elvis explains, in his own words, why an ordinary soldier's uniform mattered more to him than any special treatment ever could.
