This is a gameplay recording of Banjo-Kazooie, recorded from July 18th to July 19th, 2026, and played through the BanjoRecomp source port. The gameplay is recorded through GPU Screen Recorder and small edits are made prior to uploading to remove dead air.

This was made for a monthy game club hosted on a discord channel that I am a part of. Each month, a random user submits a theme for which users submit suggestions and vote for the games they would like everyone to play. Users are also free to play games that match the theme.
The theme for this month is "The Collect-a-thon: Gotta Collect 'em All!".
From the discord:
Remember Super Mario 64? One of the launch titles for that console with the fork controller that everyone loved (and if you didn't, well ... you're wrong, possibly even objectively). The game served not only as a tech demo for the hardware and especially the controller, but it also redesigned platformers in a way that changed the gaming landscape forever (or at least for a hot minute before people hopped onto the next new thing).
The theme for the month of July is all about exploring that platformer subgenre in time: The Collect-a-thon: Gotta Collect 'em All!
So suggestions don't have to be 3D or platformers like their forebearers, but getting collectables is mandatory for regular progress. Whether it's unlocking new levels, new areas and/or new moves (though moves themselves are not collectibles. Whaddya think this is, a metroidvania?) you gotta get the stars / crystals / jiggy pieces / whatevers in an area in order to move forward. Ideally, there would be multiple collectibles in a single level as opposed to one per level. Exploration is the spirit of the genre after all, otherwise we'd be playing linear action games.

My personal thoughts:
So I wanted to attempt playing though this game without a guide, see if I could collect all the collectables without having to look anything up.
I almost did it. But then I got to Rusty Bucket Bay, with it's breakable portholes that blend in too perfectly with the geometry. It ruined everything. :(
I was expecting the worst from Grunty's Furnce Fun. Heard plenty of things about how this was the least liked part of the game, and ... yeah, I can see it. Personally, I find the whole thing to be pretty funny. If you're pretty invested in the game already (which, if you made it this far, you probably are) you're probably going to get most of the questions right, and the worst of it can be skipped with the jokers. The one aspect of it I can leave are the questions about Grunty; I actually went through the footage and wrote down all the answers that I was able to find ... and then most of the questions I got at the end turned out to be unrelated. Boo.
