Once known for its coal-mining roots and rich oil history, Florence has grown and changed through the years while still holding on to much of its small-town charm. The old downtown buildings that once housed hardware stores, grocery stores, clothing shops, and other local businesses have found new life as antique shops and specialty stores. And the beautiful, iconic building that once served as our high school still stands as a reminder of days gone by, even as a newer high school now sits at the top of town. Florence has changed, but some things never lose their charm. Whether you grew up here, remember visiting years ago, or have never been here at all, we hope you’ll enjoy this little trip through a town with a whole lot of history and heart.
