Hey guys! In this video we take a look at the Selby Aura Road level crossing, along the narrow gauge Puffing Billy Railway, in the small and quiet town of Selby. This level crossing was one of 3 remaining flashing light setups along the line, however in early 2025 the Labor government announced that 32 regional level crossings would receive important safety upgrades, and out of those 32, two were on Puffing Billy - Selby-Aura being one, and Kilvington Drive being the other. In March 2026, the initial works began. This included landscaping around both signals, the installation of the new concrete foundations for the gated signals, underground cabling, and retaining wall works infront of both signals. Funnily enough, the Google Maps Streetview car drove past the crossing on the day this was all being done and can be seen here: https://maps.app.goo.gl/wNUR7zCHpUoYM... I visited the crossing on the 15th of March after these works had begun, and there is footage and an activation included in this video. 3 months later, on the 6th of June, I returned to Puffing Billy for another day of filming. By this time, the retaining walls had been completed, the new white picket fencing had been installed, the gravel around the signals spread, and the new relay case foundation fitted. This was the last time I filmed this crossing prior to boom gate install, which happened on Tuesday 6th October 2026. I then visited on Saturday the 10th to film the new signals, and have included 3 of the 4 activations I filmed on the day in this video. Despite the loss of another teardrop and gateless crossing, I actually dont mind the new setup. Its still a very peaceful area and the continuation of mechanical bells that Puffing Billy still upholds with their new gated setups makes it even better. It would have been nice to see the return of the long gone third flashing light signal on the south-eastern side of the crossing, but there was very little chance of that happening.
