The Hearth in Winter ❄️ Old Christmas Songs from the British Isles

The Hearth in Winter is a collection of old Christmas and winter songs from the British Isles, reimagining public-domain poetry from England, Scotland and Wales through period-inspired folk and chamber music. From Elizabethan and early-Baroque sounds to Victorian and Edwardian song traditions, the album moves through glowing Christmas hearths, snowy villages, winter seas, childhood memories, faith, loss and quiet hope. Lute, viols, fiddle, woodwinds, piano, strings and intimate voices change with the period of each song while keeping the collection within one coherent old-world Christmas atmosphere. From a Yule log burning in a 17th-century English home to a sailor longing for his family, forgotten Christmas gatherings and a lone bird singing into the winter dark, The Hearth in Winter is a journey through old Christmases remembered, lost and imagined again.
