Places of Valour Series"©️, is due to be released during the middle of 2026. This, a documentary series, tells a powerful story that sheds light on a significant yet often overlooked chapter of history. The featured documentary film version of Places of Valour, which is the film version of the series, was named the "Best Film of the Year for 2025" at the Power 24 International Film Festival, held at Durban during August 2025. This series consists of 7 episodes, which is the uncut version of the feature film: Places of Valour. Episode 7 discusses the attacks on Cahama (1983) and the important battle at Smokshell (1980). The last episode of the series also provides details of how the war reached its climax in the Techepa and Calueque areas (1988), and it presents a fascinating story about how the war was ended (1988). The series ends with statistical data of casualties and the various countries' forces' strengths during the 23 year long war in Angola. Marius Scheepers' dedication to documenting the Angolan Border War (1966-1989) through personal experiences, interviews, and unique footage adds a deeply personal and authentic layer to the narrative. It's commendable that he undertook this project under challenging circumstances, especially given the sensitivity surrounding the topic and sometimes hostile reception by the relevant authorities. This did not provide for ideal condition to undertake such challenging project, but it succeeded to its completion. His background as a veteran, historian, and author likely enriches the storytelling, providing valuable insights into the complexities of the war. Although the entire war cannot be covered in a mere 90 minutes, the incidents which are covered in this film could serve as important resources for understanding the historical context and personal stories behind the conflict. Captain Marius Scheepers was part of the war, as he served as a signal officer with the famous 32 Battalion at their bases which were established deep in Angola in 1983. He currently runs his law firm in Pretoria, South Africa. Included in the film is unique footage: 1. A South African's first-ever visits to seventeen of the twenty major battlefields of the Angolan war during filming; 2.A narritive by a war veteran turned historian and author of several published books on related subjects; 3. Unique and rare photographs capturing hundreds of battle scenes from the war; 4. Interviews with prominent military leaders who participated in the war; 5. The restructuring, to scale with model vehicles, of military forces highlights the diverse array of hardware deployed during these battles; 6. Accurate statistical data on personnel casualties during the conflict; 7.Modern-day video footage of iconic landmarks; and 8. Soldiers who fought in a significant battle in Angola take part in a distinctive commemoration parade held on-site.
