The decisions about our lives continue right through to the very end. Advance care planning helps ensure a person’s preferences, values and choices are understood and respected. Legal frameworks support this by allowing people to document their wishes and appoint alternative decision-makers – keeping the person at the centre wherever possible. In this webinar, we explore what this looks like in practice, especially for older people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. What are the risks? How do we make sure people are heard? And how do we uphold their rights while supporting their preferences? You’ll hear from experienced practitioners in medicine and law, alongside an aged care palliative care specialist. Together, they unpack the benefits and challenges of advance care planning, including situations where decision-making capacity may be impacted. The session also highlights how cultural and linguistic diversity shapes both the process and outcomes of end-of-life decision-making. Hosted by Paul Zanatta, Manager of the Centre for Cultural Diversity in Ageing, this webinar also includes a Q&A session with the speakers.
