"Kaiako are expected to hold specialist knowledge across all facets of te ao Māori. This is an unfair expectation." A new kaupapa is closing that gap. Whāia te Oranga is bringing specialist hauora practitioners into Rānui Primary and New Windsor School's bilingual units, reaching over 150 tamariki, and building the local capability to keep it going after the practitioners leave. Specialist practitioners deliver Mau Rākau, Kī-o-Rahi and Mauri Tau, working alongside kaiako and whānau to connect learning between kura and home. Early results: tauira more settled and engaged, whānau more connected to their tamariki's learning, kaiako more confident and capable. "Our intention is for this to spread to all bilingual units across the motu." - Brady Polkinghorne (Ngāti Tamaterā, Ngāti Raukawa ki te Tonga), The Kindness Institute Delivered by Healthy Families Waitākere in partnership with The Kindness Institute, Taukoea Limited, Toi Mauri Ora, and Kī o Rahi Tāmaki Makaurau. Funded by Tū Manawa Active Aotearoa and the Education Partnership and Innovation Trust. #HealthyFamiliesWaitākere #KaupapaMāori #Hauora #whaiateoranga #maurakai #mauritau #kiorahi
