Princess Kaguya | A Japanese Tale of Love and Farewell | Japanese Folktale

Discover the timeless Japanese folktale of **Princess Kaguya**, a mysterious princess from the Moon, in this moving story of love, sorrow, and farewell. Known as The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter (*Taketori Monogatari*), this ancient Japanese story is one of the oldest surviving works of Japanese narrative literature. But beyond its magical setting lies a deeply human message about love, loss, and the beauty of things that cannot last forever. In this video, we explore the story of Kaguya-hime, from her mysterious discovery inside a glowing bamboo stalk to the impossible tasks she gives her suitors, her longing for the Moon, and her heartbreaking farewell to the people who love her. We also explore the Japanese aesthetic concept of *mono no aware* — a sensitivity to the passing of time and the bittersweet beauty of impermanent things. The story's final moments reveal the Emperor's love and invite us to reflect on a universal question: *Do the things we cannot keep forever become more precious because our time with them is limited?* Whether you are interested in Japanese folklore, traditional Japanese stories, Japanese culture, or timeless life lessons, we hope this tale offers a moment of reflection and a new perspective on the beauty of being human. 🌸 *CHAPTERS* 00:00 Introduction — A Story That Has Lasted for a Thousand Years 00:54 Chapter 1 — The Girl Inside the Glowing Bamboo 01:53 Chapter 2 — Five Suitors and Impossible Treasures 02:59 Chapter 3 — Why Did Kaguya-hime Cry When She Looked at the Moon? 04:16 Chapter 4 — The Farewell 05:39 Chapter 5 — The Beauty of Things That Cannot Last 07:13 Chapter 6 — The Emperor’s Love and the Meaning of the Story 💬 *SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS* Do you think the things we cannot keep forever become more precious because our time with them is limited?
