Taiwan Coast Guard conducts anti smuggling drill

(4 May 2019) Taiwan's Coast Guard Administration demonstrated its capabilities with a series of air-sea drills during which it neutralised suspected smugglers. The country's President Tsai Ing-wen took part in the drills, which were held in waters off Taipei. In a speech, Tsai praised her country's role in promoting regional peace and stability. "Taiwan has considerably contributed in countering transnational smuggling crimes, preventing illegal trafficking and even stopping the spreading of contagious diseases," she said. Taiwan's Coast Guard Administration operates a fleet of more than 170 ships.
