Michael Brecker Pat Metheny Joey Calderazzo Dave Holland Jack DeJohnette Birdland NYC 2/6/97 1st set

For a brief period in the late 90s I started trading live cassettes again after stopping around 1988. This is one of the tapes I acquired in that period, of an all-star lineup put together by the late Michael Brecker, one of the true giants of the tenor saxophone. This is the first set of the Thursday night of a week-long run at Birdland in Manhattan in February 1997. There are a couple of copies of the late show from two days earlier available on YouTube for those who want to hear more (a simple search will get you there). Brecker's solo on Don Grolnick's "Nothing Personal" is blistering, as is Calderazzo's piano solo on that same tune. Michael Brecker - tenor saxophone Pat Metheny - guitar Joey Calderazzo - piano Dave Holland - bass Jack DeJohnette - drums 00:00 Slings and Arrows (M. Brecker) 13:56 Midnight Voyage (J. Calderazzo) 29:55 Every Day (I Thank You) (P. Metheny) 44:04 African Skies (M. Brecker) 1:09:25 Nothing Personal (D. Grolnick) Uploaded solely for educational purposes and historical interest. Enjoy.
