Filmed from a forward-facing perspective, this video captures the full atmosphere of the railway, including the sounds of the classic 1950s GE locomotive, spectacular mountain railroading, and the ever-changing landscapes that have made the White Pass & Yukon Route world famous for more than a century. Constructed during the Klondike Gold Rush and opened in 1900, the White Pass & Yukon Route is one of North America's most famous narrow-gauge railways. Built through some of the most challenging terrain on the continent, the line climbs from sea level at Skagway to the summit of White Pass before crossing the international border into Canada and continuing through the rugged wilderness of British Columbia and Yukon as it skirts the beautiful Lake Bennett to Carcross. The route traverses dramatic mountain scenery, including sheer rock cliffs, deep gorges, waterfalls, glaciers, alpine lakes, and vast stretches of northern wilderness. Highlights include the climb through the Coast Mountains, the crossing of White Pass at an elevation of 2,885 feet (879 m), and the descent through dramatic terrain toward the historic community of Carcross in the Yukon.
