Written in three continuous movements, the concerto unfolds as a spiritual and sonic journey, drawing on both the ancient resonances of the cimbalom and the vivid, layered timbres of a modern wind ensemble. The work balances atmospheric restraint with bursts of rhythmic vitality, often blurring the lines between improvisational freedom and structural clarity. Soloist Ivan Curtean embodies this vision with exceptional artistry. His performance brings the instrument’s full expressive range to life: whispered glissandi and delicate tremolos suggest moments of prayer or distant memory, while sharper rhythmic sections evoke ceremonial dances or ritualistic urgency. With masterful control and interpretive depth, Curtean does not merely play the cimbalom—he gives it voice, breath, and presence within a new musical context. His performance is central to the concerto’s success, serving not just as interpreter, but as storyteller and guide. __________________________________ Thanks to Matěj Číp for lending us his beautiful cimbalom for this performance. https://www.cimbalomguy.com/ __________________________________ #alexandertimofeevmusic COMPOSITIONS by Alexander Timofeev: https://docs.google.com/document/d/e/...
